Master’s Thesis Research Grant for SoilCare Research Project

The Department of Anthropology at UGM, in collaboration with the Plant Production Systems Group at Wageningen University & Research, through the SoilCare Research Project, is offering thesis research grants to two Master’s students in Anthropology at the Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Gadjah Mada University. The grants are intended for ethnographic research on the social organization of soil management among oil palm farmers in Mukomuko, Bengkulu. Fieldwork, scheduled from September to November 2026 (3 months), will be preceded by 6 weeks of proposal writing supervision and field preparation from July to August 2026.

The research grant covers expenses for fieldwork, transportation, supplies, and daily living. Dr. Rosa de Vos, Dr. Agung Wicaksono, and Prof. Dr. Pujo Semedi will supervise the research and writing, aiming to produce two master’s theses in English and two co-authored journal articles.

Applicants are asked to submit:

1. a letter of interest (300 words),
2. a brief research proposal (500 words)
3. an academic CV.
