The Department of Anthropology, Faculty of Cultural Sciences UGM, held a screening of the film “Laila” on Friday, 28 November 2025, from 13.00 to 15.30 WIB at the Multimedia Room, Margono Building. The event provided an opportunity for students to observe how the issue of child marriage is presented through a visual medium.
The program opened with remarks by Muhammad Ade Putra, S.Ant., followed by the screening of “Laila”, which highlights the practice of child marriage in a coastal village in East Kalimantan. The film is directed by Wucha Wulandari, M.A., a filmmaker and graduate of the UGM Master’s Program in Anthropology (2024), who has initiated the exploration of research methods through audiovisual media.
Following the main film screening, the event continued with the presentation of “Pasukan Gagal Tobat”, a final project created by a student of the Master’s Program in Anthropology, specializing in the Empowerment track. Both works demonstrate how visual media can support learning processes and the communication of ideas within anthropological studies.
A discussion and Q&A session then took place with Wucha Wulandari, allowing participants to gain insight into her visual production process and the context behind the making of “Laila”. The event concluded at 15.30 WIB, serving as a valuable space for students to appreciate and learn about the role of visual media in addressing relevant social issues.
